Darkness and Light in the Viscera

My heart did a little happy dance when I heard that from early January onward Minnesota gains an additional minute or more between sunrise and sunset each day through the summer solstice in June. Light is slowly overcoming darkness.

The changing amount of daylight hours across the seasons in Minnesota gets into one’s bones, forming conscious and unconscious sensibilities through the visceral experiences of the natural world.

Definitions for visceral in the Merriam-Webster dictionary include “Having a deep sensibility or characterized by intuition and instinct over intellect.” and “Arising from impulse or sudden emotion rather than from thought or deliberation.”

Perhaps this is why I am fascinated by the interplay of darkness and light, awed by how each is necessary in creating true beauty.
