I discovered this fresco of Madonna and Child in the crypt chapel of the the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (France) on a bucket-list trip in August 2024. This medieval church has been a site of Marian pilgrimage since the 9th century. One woman’s “yes” in faith was possible because of the prior faith and hope of her parents, Anna and Joachim, who prayed for a child then said “yes” to nurturing her in the dignity of being and acting as a child of God. My “yes” now is only possible because of those who have gone before me and walk with me, knitted together in the lineage of unfailing love.
